Abstract

A comparative study of the performance of laying hens housed in cages and floor pens was conducted under filed condition at C.U. Veterinary Research Center. A total of 480 birds were divided iinto 2 groups, each group consisting of 4 replicates, 60 birds each. The results were recorded throught 52 weeks of egg production. There were no significant (P > 0.05) differences for the rate of egg production, efficiency if feed utilization, body weight gain and mortality rate. But the egg weight was significantly (p < 0.05) greater in group of birds housed in cages than those housed in floor pens (60.7 gm VS 57.0 gm). This may be dur to better ventilation around the cage.
